Service and Maintenance

The maintenance of any gas or oil fired heating plant is essential to prolong its efficient working life. Regular service visits will keep the equipment in good working order enabling it to stay safe, efficient and effective, thereby preventing energy waste and early failure of the plant.

What is involved in a service visit?

The items of plant are serviced to the manufacturer's recommendations and our own service specification. This includes:
  • boilers
  • pumps
  • heat emitters (ie radiators, fan coils, convector heaters)
  • hot water cylinders connected to the system
  • pipework within the plantroom
  • controls
  • supply and expansion systems, ie F&E tanks, expansion vessels, pressurisation units
  • flue fans

Our inspection will cover the following areas:

Operational:

Checks are made to ensure that all parts of the heating system are operational. From the boiler, pumps, burners, heater to the controls. Whilst some failures are obvious because the heating does not work, others will remain undetected until an experienced heating engineer inspects and services the equipment.

Safety:

Our service visits include a safety check. Once completed the details are incorporated into our appliance inspection sheet and recorded on our database. If you require a copy of the current certificate you can obtain it from us at anytime for each appliance serviced. This will include the appliance flue suitability, fuel pipework integrity, safety valves, burner emissions, appliance ventilation and the appliance electrical installation.

Efficiency:

With the environment to consider and the rising cost of fuel it is important that the heating system is tuned for optimum performance. Gas analysis checks are carried out as part of the service to ensure that your plant is running as efficiently as it can. Where an item of plant fails to meet a reasonable level of efficiency you will be notified so that you can consider budgeting for replacement or upgrading.

Suitability:

Whilst checking and servicing your heating, our engineer will also be checking to ensure that it is suitable for the use it has been put to. Is the appliance too big / too small for purpose? Does it suit the location in which it is installed? Is it safe? What improvements, if any, can the system benefit from.

Condition:

As a standard part of our service a plant list is drawn up along with the condition of the plant bearing in mind it's age. Where work is recommended our engineer will notify our office by entering the details on their job sheet. A copy of this will be left at the site where the work has been carried out. Where follow up work is required our office will write / email you with the details and costs of the work.
